Some Basics on Reading Guitar Tabs

Make Sure you understand the symbols- Guitar tabs just help you learn the song by telling you where to put your fingers.  A lot of little subtle sounds can show up on guitar tabs as well, even on beginner guitar tabs.  It's a good idea to make sure you understand what they mean.

Ever seen something like 5/7 ? This is a simple Slide - In guitar tabs slides are usually abbreviated with a slash, / or \ for sliding up or down respectively. In beginner guitar tabs, you might happen across a slide here or there, don't worry they're not too tough. If the tab says 5/7 simply strum the 5th fret, and slide your finger up to the 7th fret without strumming. It will become very easy with some practice.

See Something Lke 5h7 or 5p4 ? These are Hammer Ons, Pulloffs, Hammerons and pullofs sound pretty tricky for the player looking for beginner guitar tabs, but once you learn them, they make your life a lot easier. For a hammer, say 5h7, you will strum the 5th fret, and then press hard on the 7th fret without strumming. Pulloffs are basiscally the same, for 7p5 strum the 7th fret, and take your finger off the 7th with another finger already on the 5th.

Two notes at once - When I was learning beginner guitar tabs, I struggled playing two notes at once. It will be hard as a beginner, but you will have to let go of that guitar pick and learn fingerstyle guitar.
